Standard versions come with the 1.7 GHz and 2.2 GHz processors from the Intel® "Embedded Line". The D4 can operate as a system-slot card for any CompactPCI® or PXI™ system, with the system slot capable of being placed either left or right in the enclosure. The 1-slot D4 supports full hot swap and is compatible with PICMG 2.16 and the requirements of a server blade. The 845G chipset supports up to 1 GB of 200-MHz DDRAM. Application code is conveniently stored in a scalable CompactFlash® which is controlled via IDE. A second IDE channel allows direct connection of an onboard 2.5" hard disk. The chipset also features a DVI graphics controller which allows for attachment of both advanced and legacy flat-panel displays and CRT monitors. Three onboard USB ports provide universal interfaces to a variety of peripheral devices (such as keyboard, mouse, printer, modem, or camera). For high-speed networking and field bus interfacing, the D4 features two or three Gigabit Ethernet lines (depending on the model). Further interfaces include two COMs, keyboard/mouse, floppy and parallel ports. DVI, keyboard/mouse, 2 Gigabit Ethernet, 1 USB and 1 COM are conveniently available at the front panel of the D4. All the other functions are available via the rear I/O adapter. The rear I/O adapter is compatible with that of the MEN D2 CPU board (Pentium® MMX SBC) to provide an easy upgrade path from D2 to D4. Further flexible I/O extension is provided by using the two PC-MIP® slots or one PMC slot on the D4 CPU board. The mezzanine signals are provided at the front or via the rear I/O adapter. A final ESM-based embedded application consists either of a stand-alone ESM (the power supply connection being sufficient to operate the module), an ESM with an application-specific carrier card and/or an ESM with additionally plugged PCI-104 modules. The EK01 is a ready-to-use starter kit that allows evaluation of the functions of the EM02 Embedded System Module. This minimal additional design effort can be carried out by the user or by MEN. The EM02 is an ideal computing platform for embedded industrial PCs under Windows or Linux. It is controlled by an Ultra-Low Power Tualatin Pentium III with 933MHz or an Ultra-Low Voltage Tualatin Celeron Processor with 400MHz. It provides 16KB L1 and 512KB/256KB L2 cache. The EM02 uses the Intel 815G chip set, including graphics. It provides one VGA connector, one USB 1.1 connector Type A and one Gigabit Ethernet interface at the front panel. It also provides 512MB of DRAM and a CompactFlash slot on board. As an alternative to onboard USB, legacy I/O is routed to the carrier board via the J2 system connector of the EM02. It includes a serial interface, (E)IDE, a floppy interface, as well as two PS/2 interfaces for keyboard and mouse. The carrier board has an ATX-compatible format and provides the mechanical platform, the power supply and the I/O connectors. It comes with one ESM slot and three PCI slots, which allow the use of standard extension cards in the PC. It is equipped with USB 2.0 (front), a 9-pin D-Sub for an RS232 serial interface (front) and connectors for IDE and floppy. It comes with two RS232 interfaces and two Fast Ethernet channels at its front panel. As an evaluation example, additional I/O functionality is implemented in the onboard FPGA, comprising a graphics controller with 800x600 resolution, a CAN controller, a quad UART as well as controllers for IDE and touch panel. The EM05 is a powerful industrial PC designed to operate in harsh environments (-40 to +85°C, shock, vibration, humidity etc.) -- an ideal solution also for infotainment applications. It is controlled by the Crusoe TM5900 from Transmeta, a Pentium-like x86 with an integrated Northbridge. What makes this CPU attractive is its low power consumption of typically 5W at 800MHz and a long-term availability of five years. The EM05 is equipped with 512MB DDR RAM (133MHz) and a CompactFlash slot for scalable program storage. It provides two RS232 interfaces and two Fast Ethernet channels via RJ45 connectors at its front panel. Further I/O deriving from the onboard Super I/O controller such as USB, IDE, PS/2 etc. are routed to the I/O connector of the ESM by means of an FPGA. Additional I/O functionality is implemented in the onboard FPGA, comprising a graphics controller with 800x600 resolution and controllers for IDE, SPI and GPIO. The physical interfaces are accessible on the carrier board which is included in the kit. The ATX-compatible carrier board provides the mechanical platform, the power supply and the I/O connectors. It comes with one ESM slot and three PCI slots, which allow the use of standard extension cards in the PC. The EM05 is equipped with an onboard 133MHz fast DDR RAM SO-DIMM socket for data and a CompactFlash slot for scalable program storage.
